Lao Series & Early Works

Taiwanese and Japanese periods required the mastering of thousands of brushstrokes under the watchful eyes of my masters. Some required that one stroke painted must result in twelve different shades of grey.

The designs on the kimonos are my own creation, even though I am not Japanese. I had to study old and antique kimono designs and Japanese wood block prints in order to drape the designs on my figures, especially the Kabuki actors.

Painting Lao classical dancers and bathers in the stream is a wonderful way of opening and revisiting my memory box.
